APOSTOLIC REFORMATION

Much has been said and written about the Apostolic. Since 1901, when the term was passed around in the Pentecostal Revivals, in Wales and England in the 1940’s and more recently in post-prophetic churches embracing a new kind of leadership.  

In many cases though, apostolic is simply being used as a stand in for bishop or pastoral work. People who are concerned about losing their place in the pecking order, are taking up the title apostle, without the call from God to back it up.  

This is a dangerous practise, as dangerous as calling yourself a doctor when you have no medical training. People come to a doctor, seeking advise and healing.  

People come to an apostle with certain expectations too. This stream is dedicated to looking firstly at Biblical Apostolic foundations, then at historical and lastly modern day expressions of the apostolic ministry.  

Our hope is to demystify the role, and re-engineer it in the minds of students.  

Bringing the ministry back to it’s ordinary and supernatural fundamentals. We will also look at team work (apostles, prophets and teachers), eldership, the city wide church and fathering under this module.

AUTHENTIC CHRISTIANITY

In New Testament times the purity of the gospel was already under siege. Some of the New Testament epistles were written to defend the true nature of the gospel against legalism on the one hand and licentiousness on the other. Authentic Christianity is a brief exposition of three vital New Testament epistles Romans Galatians and Hebrews. These epistles were written against a background in which the gospel was either being explained clarified or defended. These epistles are as relevant today as they were to the age in which they were written.

Christian growth and development seldom takes place in isolation; it often involves the process of discipleship. The term Christian is only mentioned three times in the New Testament; in contrast the word disciple is found 259 times. COFFEE SHOP - TRAIN THE TRAINER

Coffee Shop Summer Mission is designed to help young people gain a personal understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and their own faith and to be prepared to share their faith in ordinary, everyday language in the context of relationship. Young people also prepare a short testimony of their own conversion that would be easy for someone with no church background to understand. COUNSELLING GODS WAY

This subject is all about Christians counselling Christians. Christian counselling ought to be distinct from secular counselling for two reasons. First we are able to draw upon the divine wisdom found in Gods Word. Second Christians have access to divine resources to cope with the difficulties of life. The aim of Christian counselling is to deliver counselees from independence and co dependence and lead them into a Christ dependent lifestyle. At least it should be.  

Sadly, the concept of Christian counselling, in many circles, has come to mean no more than simply Christians who counsel regardless of the nature of their counsel. And this is where the problem lies. Much of Christian counselling today is an attempt to integrate secular psychology with biblical principles. This is an impossible task. Both belief systems are diametrically opposed. In the end one belief system will be compromised. Surprisingly, in the main, Christians are all too ready to trade the Word of God for the popular theories that are constantly evolving in the world of psychology.  

Working from the premise of the sufficiency of the Scriptures to direct the lives of Christians, this subject goes on to help students work out the principles of Biblical counselling in several everyday counselling situations.

What D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones said nearly thirty years ago remains true today. The most urgent need in the Christian church is true preaching; and as it is the greatest and most urgent need in the church, it is obviously the greatest need of the world also. Such preaching is God`s means for accomplishing God`s purposes. John A. Broadus also noted that, In every age of Christianity, since John the Baptist drew crowds into the desert, there has been no great religious movement, no restoration of Scripture truth, and reanimation of genuine piety, without new power in preaching, both as cause and as effect.
