Mission, Discipleship and Leadership in Cultures of Change

We are living in times of rapid change. Many existing patterns and paradigms face challenges. This course will explore the implications of ministry in a culture of change, with a specific focus on local church ministry. It provides practical case studies on mission, discipleship and leadership and subject these to theological reflection, in order to encourage creative and critical thinking on the nature of mission and ministry today.

It will not be prescriptive but will encourage participants in their ability to dialogue between context and Christian texts, offering theological imagination in response to what God is doing in the lives of individuals and communities

The Dynamics of Leading a Contemporary Church

This course is designed for students who have been involved in local church leadership for a number of years. The local church is a unique environment that requires a certain type of leader who is able to navigate the complexities of leading, teaching, and managing a variety of ministries while keeping a strong focus on mission. This practical seminar will focus on important skills in five areas of leadership practice: vision, communication, pastoral care, team building, and personal well-being.

Character Shaped Leadership (Leading out of Deep Places)

This course introduces students to a series of inter-related issues for Christian leadership in a conflicted and competitive marketplace. It focuses on enabling the Christian leader to (1) self-manage themselves to ensure a sustained, resilient, positive and spiritual leadership in their ministry work-places; (2) which produces effective missional outcomes through modelling the grace, love, justice and mercy of God; and (3) producing healthy, effective, flourishing and harmonious Church community. The course works with the concept of living in the love and grace of God has a Christian disciple and leader.

Movements That Change the World

Jesus founded a missionary movement and calls us to participate in a movement that proclaims the gospel, makes disciples and multiplies communities of faith throughout the world. Dynamic movements display five recurring characteristics: white-hot faith, commitment to a cause, contagious relationships, rapid mobilization and adaptive methods. This course will provide an understanding of the dynamics of dynamic missionary movements. Participants will identify key characteristics of dynamic missionary movements from biblical, historical, and contemporary case studies and apply them to their contexts.
